We are in a combustible Planet : Wild Fires
We are in a combustible
This is due to factors such as :
- Flora rich in carbon
- The seasonal dry climates
- Presence of oxygen in the atmosphere
- Volcanic activities
- Human negligence while handling man-caused fires
According to nature and it’s ecosystem processes, these wild fires are very important for the growth and development of some plant species. This only applies to the natural wild fires. The ones that have not been contributed by human activities.
The need to manage forests and it’s vegetation. The involved parties may cause a managed wild fire. This helps to promote growth and reproduction of these vegetation. Get rid of the unwanted vegetation hence reducing the fuel build up. And avoid occurance of the natural wild fire than may get out of hand. Destroying more vegetation and even human life.
How can Humans contribute to wild fires
Humans can introduce these fires intentionally or unintentionally.
These means include:
- Discarded cigarettes
- Faulty power-lines
- Sparks from equipment
- Land clearing fires that spread to the nearby forests.
Our Mount Kenya has been burning for the last six days
It all started near Lake Ellis in Tharaka-Nithi County. And has spread to various places including Embu, Laikipia and Kirinyaga.
Inaccessibility and lack of enough trained personnels are the major contribution to the difficulty of putting off this wild fire. Various organizations, individuals and institutions have been working together to help put it off.
Sadly, it’s yet for the cause to be ruled out. No one knows what started this wild fire.
We have lost several vegetation and animals. There’s also fear of human-wildlife conflicts. As the wildlife may be forced to escape from fire and end up in the farms.
The natural wild fires play an important role in the ecosystem. Hence they should be allowed to take place. But to be monitored not to spread to where people live.
For the wild fire caused by us, we should be extra careful not to start them in the first place. By being careful on how we handle anything that may ignite it.
Fire is very destructive and our planet is combustible. Just a little ignition and everything goes kaboom. It’s important to note that such fires may prove extremely hard to control leading to massive death and property destruction.
Clearing land through fire is a big NO and outdated method. Lets embrace other means of clearing land for farming.
Wildlife lose lives in these fires, so lets work hard to prevent ourselves to be the cause of these wild fires.
It’s my hope and prayer that the fire burning our precious Mount Kenya get controlled and eliminated soon. And may they be no more deaths to our wildlife.
