A little bit about the Unleash Hacks Liberia 2021 hackathon

UNLEASH Hacks are localized hackathons designed to address sustainability challenges in specific contexts around the world.

This is through a collaborative 2-day event organized by UNLEASH alumni and their network, passionate talents work with local stakeholders and community leaders taking place between May and July.

Team 3 led by Ezekiel Nyanfor

They worked on Goal 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Actions.

They discovered inaccessibility to affordable clean cooking fuel in Liberia. According to them, 95% of the approximately 5 million Liberian population use charcoal as their primary cooking fuel.

This promotes;

• Forest degradation
• Deforestation
• Indoor pollution
• Waste
• Increase in Green House Gas emissions.

BriqCo Liberia, an emerging Climate Actions Enterprise, is the solution they are providing.

It will help in creating clean, green, and affordable cooking fuel known as briquettes. Which will help reduce the high demand for charcoal production and use.

BriqCo Liberia will sell these affordable briquettes to the local people, thus promoting environmentally friendly packaging, and creating green jobs for the Liberia population.

Ezekiel Nyanfor opinion

Talking to our Youth Ambassador, Ezekiel Nyanfor who is the Team Leader on how he feels about the accomplishment and high achievement as a Climate Activist.

He recognizes that solving climate and environmental problems,  while creating green jobs and business is the real Climate Action.

He asserts that we should not only talk but take real climate actions through solving problems.
