Using plants as source of proteins

Vegetarians and other plant lovers, prefer getting their protein from plants.

It’s also recommended for those trying to shade some few pounds.

Most importantly, those who consume more plants than they do meat, are considered friends of our planet. As they do not promote the emission of human-induced greenhouse gases.

These plants include:

  • Seeds and Nuts
  • Beans and legumes
  • Soy products
  • Grain and cereal-based products

Just like herbivores, for you to get good amount of protein from this plants, then you have to consume them in huge amounts. They take a while to really make you full and digested very fast. Hence an excellent healthy decisions that many shun away from.

I remember how we used to joke that plants are foods for rabbits, and distancing ourselves from them. Until when we became obesed and they turned to be our life savers. So now we know better, ttat they are rich food that should make-up the biggest part of our plate.

Animal’s product that supplies us protein

Animal products are the most beloved by humanity, and consumed in a wide variety of forms.

These products include:

  • Red Meat, poultry and fish
  • Eggs
  • Dairy products like milk, yoghurt and cheese

Unlike plants, animal products offer protein in huge amounts. Hence can be consumed in small numbers.

Unfortunately, we do the opposite. Instead of consuming less of these products and more of plants. We consume more of animals products.

Resulting to lifestyle diseases and increased emission of human-induced greenhouse gases.

How does animal product consumption contribute to emission of greenhouse gases?

This is through the processes undertake while producing meat.

These processes will result to :

  • Pollution through fossil fuel usage
  • Methane produced by the animals
  • Liquid waste from its urine and feaces.
  • Water and land consumption

Not only does it contribute most of the harmful greenhouse gases, they also cause loss of biodiversity. Livestock production has been pinned down as the greatest stress or to our planet Earth.

So, what happens if you don’t like plants and still want to use an alternative for animal products.

This is where edible insects come in.

Surprisely, beetles are among the richest insect sources of protein according to National Geographic.

Not only do they provide us rich protein, but they also give us fats, minerals as well as vitamins.

They are environmental friendly and do not contribute to the human-induced greenhouse gases.

So if you are not yet ready to embrace vegetarian lifestyle. It’s time you sampled edible insects and see which ones works for you.

Conclusion

We are in a mission to curb climate change by ensuring that we cut on any activities that contribute to emission of greenhouse gases.

By exploring the solutions, we get to learn new amazing things like the edible insects. And they might surprise us with an amazing flavour.

Time to save our planet and embrace sustainable living. Till we ensure that the temperatures are not rising anymore.
