World Bee Day 2020

Let’s celebrate World Bee Day 2020, and for a minute stop worrying about the COVID 19. Its a day dedicated to appreciate and understand the importance of protecting bees and other pollinators. We are able to understand their role in food production and our ecosystem in general.

This year’s theme aims at the below:

  • Political Goodwill: Draw the attention of the world’s public and political decision-makers to the importance of protecting bees.
    Every living organism has a role to play in the ecosystem: remind us that we depend on bees and other pollinators;
  • Understand that our food problem will be greatly solved if we protected pollinators such as bees: protect bees and other pollinators, which would significantly contribute to solving problems related to the global food supply and eliminate hunger in developing countries.
  • We have lost enough species to extinction, let’s not allow any other species to disappear: halt the further loss of biodiversity and degradation of ecosystems, and thereby contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Why should we protect Bees and other Pollinators

The modern world has introduced so many ways of making things simpler and within a short time. This has also affected farming especially for crops, whereby chemicals have been crazily involved. We no longer have “faith” on the natural causes like pollinators. As much as the pesticides and fertilizers may seem to increase food production within a short period of time. They have a negative long effect on the soils. Hence making the soils and food produced toxic to any living thing over a period of time.

If you have ever consumed food produced with minimal to zero chemical involvement, you definitely understand the taste difference.

Let’s allow the ecosystem to run as naturally as possible for a healthier planet and population.

Conclusion

Every life is very important and has a role in the ecosystem. We each have something to contribute to its balance.

Climate change continues to be a threat to our existence and comfortability. Hence have no luxury to continue playing safe. With the greenhouse technology, we can be able to use the greenhouse emissions without including chemicals to produce our food.

Food security is vital and basic living organisms’ survival card that should be protected. Let’s ensure that we don’t cost the least fortunate or other living organisms access to food.

If you have a backyard that can support flowers and other plants that’s host our pollinators, please do include them in your home. Not only will you have provided a home to them, but they will also provide a great view and company.
