Drought

The rains are no longer predictable, and it has been a while since it rained in most arid and semi-arid areas.

Livestock has no pasture, and water sources are all drying up. Nomads together with their livestock have to trek extremely long distances to get water and food. Sadly, sometimes they still don’t get lucky

Wildlife has also been affected. Drought noted to kill notably huge numbers of wildlife

With no vegetation cover left by the scorching sun. The risk of places turning to deserts is more real than ever.

People continue to migrate away from these areas, and population pressure hits the greener areas. Brewing problems that lead to more serious repercussions.

Before all is lost, we need a workable plan to rehabilitate the ASALs and protect the green zones. The required forest cover is achievable,
sufficient ground cover is key, and a greener planet is our responsibility
