Happy Birthday to Me

An opportunity to celebrate a brand new year, Happiest birthday to me.

This year I would like to celebrate one of my best friends who came through for me during the most painful, difficult, and traumatic time in my life.

On the 29th of June 2022, at around 9:40 am, I got involved in an accident. Thanks to my boss and colleagues, I was able to be taken to the hospital and everything was well taken care of.

After marinating in pain for almost 3 hours, as I wait for the tedious processes at the hospital. I was able to get the X-ray scanning which lead to another painful 2 hours as I waited to be attended to.

I have a fear/phobia for hospitals, and the few friends who know this don’t even dare take me near one. But this time, they were no escape. I was shivering and turning purple. Am yet to fully know if it was indeed cold, or was it the pain, or was my phobia causing it. It was scary.

I finally got attended to, and it was time to decide whether I was being admitted or sent home. When I said I live alone, the doctor recommended I get admitted, but that was not going to happen. I hated that option. So I asked if it was okay if I got someone to stay with. Thankful, they agreed.

I don’t like being a burden to anyone, and this looked like it. But on the other hand, I didn’t see myself surviving a night at the hospital. Everything crept me out.

Naomi is one of the few friends who turned into sisters, we may fail to chat or call for a good duration of time, but always pick up where we left off. She was the first person to pop into my head.

I called her, and without hesitation, she was on her way to the hospital. With a poor network and all the confusion, she had to do a lot to find me and the hospital on her own. But she made it. She quarreled with me for taking that long before informing her of the accident.

For the next four days, I was completely useless but she ensured I recovered. She took leave from work, just to be there with me at home. From accompanying me to wound dressing, and keeping me occupied. She was the doctor, nurse, mum, sister, friend, and literally all that I needed

She was incredibly helpful, and am forever grateful
