The struggle is real, but we keep doing our best.
In the spirit of staying away from activities promoting climate change. I have been embracing a vegan diet. Since we all know what livestock farming is doing when it comes to greenhouse emissions. Am yet to be successful at 100%, trending at 40%.
What has been the challenge?
- Those of us who get home really late, and with the curfew. Most of the places I could get vegetables from are usually closed. Am yet to trust vegetables from the supermarkets. So the small shops work for me.
- Bulk shopping when it comes to vegetables has worked against me before. I end up wasting these precious supplies when I end up hitting the road unplanned. That makes me go two steps backward, in terms of fight food waste. So I prefer buying vegetables, I can cook right away.
- I miss the meat. Or should I say, am mildly addicted to meat? Am yet to really stay away from meat fully.
- I would love to hear from my vegan friends (who previously consumed meat) on how you were able to transition.
We are still after progress, not perfection
Am still happy that I have been able to make some small progress when it comes to living sustainably. I still have a long way to go, but am getting closer.
Don’t forget to acknowledge the small wins, as you will eventually get the big ones.
In other news
Have you read the IPCC report? Are you worried yet? Any hopes for us with everything going on?
I really don’t know.
It’s clear that we have very limited time to act, and reverse the situation. Or do nothing and perish.
It has been sad to see people suffering floods, wildfires, drought, heatwaves, among others. Alongside the Covid pandemic.
People’s lives have changed, and we are not going back to normal anytime soon. Although, we don’t want to go back to normal. It would be great if we embraced practices that are friendly to our mother nature.
It’s almost two years, and things are not how we thought would turn out. Recovering this time may never be possible.
Lucky for those who managed to keep their jobs, create new opportunities for themselves and others, or even explored various ways to adapt to the new normal.
All the best to those still finding their footing. It’s not easy, and we acknowledge that. Don’t despair, you are almost making it through.
Conclusion
The struggle is real, and so is the win.
Keep doing what you are doing, you will enjoy the outcome and the struggle will come to an end. If you haven’t given it a start, please do. And it is okay to take your time.
For our leaders, companies, and all stakeholders, please do the needful.
Climate action has been ignored long enough, and time is slipping away.
For the concerned ones, Climate anxiety is real please keep a check on your mental health.
I am terrified of climate change. I’m angry at our leaders who aren’t taking it seriously. I’m ashamed that I’m doing so little to change my habits (although I’m not in a place with a lot of vegan options.).
I can relate Julia. This is struggle can be really frustrating , but the goal is to not give up or allow it to consume you. Do your best in all aspects, and understand that people/government/other stakeholders may disappoint us from time to time. So we have to keep pushing them till the change we need finally happens.
