Who Can Say No to Expeditions?

Who Can Say No to Expeditions? Especially one that needs you to locate a certain spot. It’s one of the amazing outdoor activity to get involved with.

What is an expedition?

It is a journey undertaken by a group of people with a particular purpose, especially that of exploration or research.

You may be offered directions or a road map. Or some times you may need to come up with one yourself.

So you have to be really good at reading and interpreting maps. And not the internet one, but the paper one.

What makes expedition fun?

Important thing is to have an adventurous team that won’t mind getting lost in the jungle as you find your way. A team with an open mind and ready to take what nature will offer.

You need updated maps and guide books, as well as, a compass. These are very vital while coming up with your road plan and getting to the spot. Should be able to offer sufficient and correct information, to avoid going the wrong direction.

An open mind ready for anything along the way. From weather, animals, geographical features, such as mountains, hills, rivers. In short, you should be prepared to face anything that crosses your path.

My favourite expedition memory

It was one I participated in Hell’s Gate National Park. Where our spot was somewhere in the Suswa Hills.

It was full of adventure, remapping and our bodies were pushed to the limits.

We got rained at twice while drying up. This was when we left our campsite and there was a light shower. Which subsidized after a short while. Sunshine kissed our faces and dried our clothes. Only to get to the other side of the hill that was raining heavenly.

We also encountered wildlife and livestock along the way. Hence had to remap some paths.

Our maps were not so updated, so we encountered some of the features not indicates on them. Missed some rivers that had dried up and a hill that no longer existed. In a way, it got us confused for some minutes but we got our bearing back shortly.

Unfortunately, one of the team members hurt her leg and she could no longer walk on her own. So we had to carry her. The men in the group took turns in carrying her. While the ladies helped with her bag.

We could create jokes and tell stories, even sing at some point. Just to get the energy to step forward as our energy levels dropped with every step.

It took us almost three-quarter of the day to find our spot. So getting back to our campsite was a marathon, to avoid allowing darkness get us lost. We had mastered our way so we avoid doing any reforms while getting back as we had the insufficient light. The moon was not very bright.

Just about to get to our campsite, we met a group of hyenas heading out for a hurt. We had been advised to remain as a group in such circumstances. So we stuck together. They did laugh at us but did no harm. So it worked.

Conclusion

If you love puzzles, challenges, and hiking, then the expeditions are perfect for you.

Convince three or four of your friends and make your weekend lite. Decide on a spot to find and make it happen. Not only is it good for your health, but it is also excellent for your peace of mind and soul.

Happy expeditions to you.
